Two suspects charged after break-in in Saulteaux First Nation

SAULTEAUX FIRST NATION – Battlefords RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress, leading to the arrest and charging of two men.

On Feb. 19 at approximately 1 p.m., Battlefords RCMP received a report of a break and enter in progress at a home on Saulteaux First Nation. Officers responded immediately and identified a suspect fleeing on foot up a hill in the distance. Officers followed the suspect’s tracks in the snow. He was located and arrested at a nearby residence.

Further investigation by Battlefords RCMP officers indicated that a second suspect may be at the residence where the initial report originated. Officers returned to the residence and secured the perimeter. Officers conducted a search inside the residence and located the suspect hiding in the fridge, who was then arrested.

As a result of this investigation, a 26-year-old man, from North Battleford, is charged with:

• one count of attempting to break and enter with intent;
• one count of possession of property under $5,000 obtained by crime; and
• one count of possession of break-in instruments.

The accused was also arrested on a number of warrants, including failing to attend court, possession of property obtained by crime, weapon possession, and assault. He appeared in North Battleford Provincial Court on Feb. 23.

A 24-year-old man, from Saulteaux First Nation, is charged with two counts of attempting to break and enter with intent.
