Did you get married in Canada or outside of the country?

Wedding season is upon us and the invites are coming in fast and furious, which is a great thing! In fact, I’ll be attending the wedding dance of some co-workers over the upcoming long weekend which I very much look forward to. A lot more couples nowadays are electing to hold their wedding outside of Canada because it can be considerably cheaper than doing it back home, plus it provides an escape from our cold winters for a week or two. While it may be nice, it can be a pain in the butt for parents and for the bridesmaids and groomsmen to try and get to those places, perhaps financially or for some other reason.

There is, however, a certain special quality of having a wedding back home in Canada. It’s easier for guests to join you on your special day, it helps out local business such as catering and community centres, and those guests that annoy the heck out of you can leave for home that night or the next day! One stat I found indicates the average wedding can range from $25,000 to $30,000 or more which requires a lot of saving, picking up extra jobs, and talking nice to mom and dad to try and make it all happen! Of course, not everybody will spend that much and some might even spend more. Regardless of how you do it, the key is to remember what the day is all about and ensure it’s special to you as a couple.

And just a reminder in a case you get frustrated planning a wedding, there are always those drive through Elvis chapels that will get you hitched in no time! Congratulations to all the couples in southern Saskatchewan who will be getting married this year.
