Sask government takes steps to support agtech development

The Saskatchewan government is taking steps to support agricultural technology development.

The province is allowing Innovation Saskatchewan to make investments in agtech startups through a Venture Capital Fund.

Innovation Saskatchewan minister Jeremy Harrison says the announcement will allow new investment into game-changing technology for farmers to accelerate economic recovery and expand economic development.

The province announced in the budget a total of 15 million dollars, 3 million per year over 5 years, in an agtech Venture Capital Fund.

The fund will be privately managed and able to leverage millions more from private investors for Saskatchewan agtech companies.

Agriculture minister David Marit says the venture capital investment will enable companies to scale up their operations and manufacturing in Saskatchewan.
