Battle of the Badges: Firefighters vs. Police Face Off for a Cause – and ready for a sold out crowd

Regina is ready for the return of Battle of the Badges Charity Hockey Game, presented by Extreme Hockey. The event is hosted by Hydrants & Hearts, a non-profit organization comprising Regina Firefighters and Local 181 employees who are driving funds to Regina’s SCEP center.

Close to 300 members of Local Union 181 contribute a portion of their paychecks towards supporting various local charities, amounting to approximately $17,000 annually.

In September, the organization allocated $10,000 from its own funds to aid in the establishment of a green space at Regina’s SCEP Center. This center serves as an early intervention preschool program catering to children with complex needs, including many who fall on the autism spectrum. With a longstanding presence of 55 years in Regina, the organization has been dedicated to assisting children impacted by trauma, leaving a profound and positive impact on the community.

Jay Ott, serving as the chairperson of Hydrants and Hearts, sees the significant needs of the SCEP Center, stressing that the $10,000 they’ve gathered is merely a stepping stone.

Ott asserts, “We urge the community of Regina to join us in this endeavor. The support of as many individuals and businesses as possible is essential.”

That fight for the SCEP center is moving to the ice of The Co-operators Centre in Regina.

Regina Fire and Protective Services and The Regina Police Service will go head-to-head, with all proceeds benefiting the Hearts and Home Campaign for SCEP Centre, courtesy of Hydrants & Hearts Charitable Society.

Many of the players on both sides of the line have played hockey at a variety of competitive levels – Ott says people can expect high action as firefighters and dedicated police officers battle it out not only for victory but also to make a positive impact in the community.

Ott says the event is sold out – with an eye to the future and a move to a bigger local.

Whether you’re cheering for Team Fire or rooting for Team Police know that in every slap shot, check, and save, these heroes will be scoring points for a cause that truly matters.
