If you can’t beat them, join them

I’ve never been accused of being a good artist. As much as I enjoyed art class in school, most people had no idea what the heck I was trying to draw or paint. I think it’s fair to say I can only draw two things – a blank and conclusions. That’s about it. There are people, however, who are very artistically gifted who may not get the accolades that fans think he/she deserves. Then there are those prolific artists who have made a major impact on society like Andy Warhol, Rembrandt, and Picasso just to name a few.

Recently at an art gallery in Munich, Germany, a worker has been fired for hanging his OWN work beside the works of many other talented German artists. The so called freelance artist thought it was good, but the rest of the museum staff and security didn’t seem to think the same thing. Because the man worked at the museum, he was able to gain access to areas that most people wouldn’t, allowing him to sneak in before work hours, hang up his painting, and then continue on with his day. His supervisors noticed the strange new piece immediately and the worker was canned on the spot. Not only is he now banned from the museum, but he’s now facing charges for drilling holes in the wall to hang his piece. Apparently the gallery isn’t going to “brush” this one off!

Thanks to the publicity this has received around the world, maybe this man’s painting will actually be worth something now? I thought about trying the same thing at the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina, but I think my rudimentary stick man drawing with a dog that looks like a mutant dinosaur would stand out just a bit too much.

Happy Friday!
