A bad day fishing still beats the best day of working

As summer approaches, many Saskatchewanians will be getting ready for the upcoming fishing season. My family and I weren’t major fishing enthusiasts, but when we’d go it was always fun and relaxing even if we didn’t catch a darn thing, which was usually the case. I can recall fishing at a dam near our farmyard that was stocked with rainbow trout but the only thing I’d ever catch was my hook in the rocks. Some of the best fishing and most incredible scenery in our province is found in northern Saskatchewan. Thanks to the hard working fishing and hunting lodge owners and employees, our province has become world renowned for fishing enthusiasts everywhere.

For those of you who love to fish, you may want to take advantage of the Assiniboia Spring Fever lotto because the early bird prize is a three day fishing trip for two to Twin Falls Lodge in northern Saskatchewan valued at over $7,000. Have you heard of this place? It’s a fly in fishing spot located in between two waterfalls on the Churchill River system near Mountain Lake. One thing is guaranteed with this trip – you’ll be getting a lot of walleye and northern pike and no catching the hook in the rocks (although, I’d probably find a way). Best of all, you get away from the hustle and bustle of work and reconnect with blue sky, fresh air, fresh water, green trees, and peace and quiet. Pretty tough to beat that.

The fishing trip will be awarded this Sunday (April 28th), plus you’ll still be eligible for all the other draws including the grand prize of $150,000 or your choice of an airplane, a truck/SUV/golf cart package, or one of the farm and ranch packages. All the money raised in the Assiniboia Spring Fever lotto benefits the Assiniboia Civic Improvement Association which invests back into the community.

The Saskatchewan angler’s guide is out now which is a timely reminder to get your angling license for the upcoming fishing season. There are four ways of acquiring a fishing license in this province. You can purchase one at any angling license issuer, at a Ministry of the Environment Office or select provincial park offices, online, or by calling 1-855-848-4773. For Saskatchewan residents, an annual license for ages 16 to 64 is $42, a three day license is $21, and a one day license is $15.

Happy fishin’!
