Dewdney Avenue Revitalization set to begin next week

The $32 million Dewdney Avenue revitalization project is set to begin next week.

Starting on the week of April 28, the City will begin the two-year project that will help create a more vibrant community by replacing aging underground infrastructure, a new road surface, widened sidewalks, improved lighting, multi-purpose outdoor spaces, a tree canopy and landscaping.

The work on Dewdney Avenue is part of “The Yards” Railyard Renewal Project, which the Governments of Canada, Saskatchewan, and Regina fund.

“By updating aged infrastructure and investing in placemaking, the Dewdney Avenue Corridor Revitalization Project will pave the way for future growth at The Yards and enhance connectivity between our Warehouse District and Downtown,” said City of Regina Mayor Sandra Masters. “The City of Regina thanks the Government of Canada, the Province of Saskatchewan and Regina’s Warehouse Business Improvement District for their partnership and support in improving this key corridor.”

Work on the 2024 construction season project will be completed in multiple phases.

Drivers should expect regular closures, lane restrictions and speed reductions along Dewdney Avenue between Albert Street and Broad Street. These restrictions ensure the safety of drivers, pedestrians and workers within the construction zone.

The first construction phase, which includes lane restrictions between Albert Street and Broad Street, is planned to begin the week of April 28.

While construction will limit parking on Dewdney Avenue, drivers can still park along the north-south streets throughout the Warehouse District.

The City will also provide parking on the yard’s site throughout construction. This temporary parking site will be accessible via Scarth Street and Hamilton Street, and there will be crosswalks.
