Chili and 10,000 Meals (Audio)

Let’s celebrate an anniversary that makes an impact on the community of Regina. Thirty-five years of offering support, feeding the community and keeping the faith, that’s Souls Harbour Rescue Mission.

For all the trials and tribulations of 35 years, there is always learning to be done when it comes to a faith based mission. More than anything, by those on the outside looking in, wondering what happens at the Mission; how are clients assisted in their daily comings and goings?

Food. Clothing. Affordable Housing. Men’s Emergency Shelter. Women’s Addiction Program. All available, if you want the help, if you are asking for the help. The door is open, the opportunity is yours for the taking.

Some of the information that you may or may not know is that, in total, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission has 44 suites that are drug, alcohol, smoke and pet free. They offer not just a home but programming for the tenants that include various life skills and addiction related support.

Companies, church organizations, service clubs and individuals play a role in the food prep which happens from noon to 3pm and meals are served from 4 to 7pm, Monday through Friday. And at the Thursday Chili Cookoff, Regina’s business community will step up with teams of chefs to create their spin on a hearty chili.

You can imagine how active the kitchen will be as the Chili Cookoff takes shape. The industrial kitchen of 1632 Angus Street will be filled with suggestions, double checking the recipe and measuring ingredients. The catch is, the chili will be judged and then judged again. First a set of judges will be present, and then the Souls Harbour Rescue Mission doors will open for their clients to enjoy.

Here’s how you can help. Stop by the office to donate on Thursday from 8am onward, make a donation on line, or mail in a donation. Kathy Ingram has the details. (Audio) Listen in to our broadcast! Looking forward to seeing the Regina Pats help out during the Chili meal!
