REGINA–Once hailed as the most popular premier in Canada, Quebec’s François Legault is now facing a dramatic fall from grace. According to new polling data from the Angus Reid Institute, only 22% of Quebecers currently approve of Legault’s performance—while a staggering 72% disapprove. This marks the lowest approval rating of his tenure since taking office in 2018.
The numbers represent a stunning reversal for the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) leader, who led his party to back-to-back majority victories in 2018 and 2022. Now, with just over a year until the next provincial election, Legault is staring down what some analysts are calling a “disastrous defeat.”
Wab Kinew in Manitoba continues to lead the country’s premiers in popularity according to the latest survey by Angus Reid.
Kinew did see support slide by seven points to 61 percent support in Manitoba. Next on the list are east coast premiers; Tim Houston in Nova Scotia (53%), Susan Holt of New Brunswick (52%), and John Hogan of Newfoundland (51%). Horgan saw the biggest gain among the premiers jumping 12 points.
Premier Scott Moe’s support in Saskatchewan ticked up one point to 50 percent. He is followed by Alberta’s Danielle Smith who dropped five points to 46 percent support.
BC Premier David Eby has seen a fall off in support, dropping five points to 41 percent. Doug Ford of Ontario is seeing an increase in support from up three points to 41 percent. Legault of Quebec rounds out the list at the bottom at 22 percent support.
