Regina’s winter festival, Frost, is going to kick off on February 7th and run each weekend in the city and participants can expect a mixed month of weather.
According to the Weather Network, February will start off relatively mild on the prairies thanks to a Pacific flow of air. Meteorologists are predicting temperatures could be 10 to 20 degrees Celsius above normal for February, making outdoor activities more bearable. However, experts say things will cool back down from the Rocky Mountains eastward in the latter half of February which means temperatures will be more normal, or below normal, for the that time of year.
Many of the Frost Festival activities will be taking place outside around Regina such as crokicurl, street hockey, downhill sledding, skiing and dog sledding in Wascana, the blizzard bounce obstacle course, and more. Inside activities include Disney’s “Frozen” at Globe Theatre, a brunch, and the local hops circuit just to name a few.
As for the rest of winter and spring, the Old Famer’s Almanac is predicting a colder start to the season. Their forecast, released this week, says temperatures will be cooler than normal in Saskatchewan during April and May, however above normal precipitation is expected for parts of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Periodic rainstorms are also possible in May, according to the almanac, which will be welcomed by many farmers and ranchers in dry areas of the province.
