Melville has named an Acting City Manager as the city’s top administrator takes medical leave.
City Manager Joleen Tuchscherer will be away from her duties for an undetermined period.
In the meantime, Director of Public Works Jeremy Fairburn has been appointed Acting City Manager. Parker Ellert will step into the role of Acting Director of Public Works, while Fire Chief Aaron Buckingham will serve as interim Director of Community Services following the resignation of Chris Bruce, who has moved to Alberta.
Melville Mayor Joe Kirwan says the changes ensure city operations continue without disruption.
City officials add the internal restructuring will keep departments running smoothly during the transition. If the leave extends, council may consider more permanent staffing arrangements.
City renews long-term lease with Melville & District Agri-Park
Melville City Council has approved a renewed commercial lease agreement with the Melville & District Agri-Park Association. The agreement, covering January 1, 2023, through December 31, 2028, allows the Association to continue using the Agri-Park lands and facilities for exhibitions, fairs, and community events.
Council says the updated lease modernizes the agreement, clarifying responsibilities for maintenance, insurance, utilities, and municipal infrastructure, while keeping rent at just one dollar per year. The move also strengthens risk management and ensures the long-standing partnership between the City and the Association continues smoothly.
The Agri-Park plays a key role in community programming, cultural events, and local agriculture, and this lease renewal guarantees that these activities can carry on without interruption.
