Strong wind blowing flags and trees.
The Victoria Day long weekend is fast approaching which means the start of camping season for many Saskatchewan residents. However, the May long weekend is notorious for bad weather and this year appears to be a somewhat mixed bag.
A weather system will be moving across the prairies this week bringing wind, rain, and snow with it. According to weather experts at The Weather Network, southern Saskatchewan can expect strong wind gusts starting Wednesday night and continuing throughout Thursday. This has prompted a special weather statement to be issued from Environment Canada affecting all areas in the Regina, Weyburn, Estevan, Yorkton, Melville, Humboldt, Saskatoon, North Battleford, Lloydminster, Kindersley, Rosetown, Swift Current, and Cypress Hills regions. Residents can expect westerly winds of 70 to 80km/h with gusts of up to 110km/h.
This weather system sweeping across Saskatchewan will bring cooler weather with it and rain. Southern Saskatchewan can expect upwards of 5mm of rain on Thursday with more rain expected on Sunday and holiday Monday. Temperatures aren’t expected to be overly warm, ranging from 8 to 11 degrees on the long weekend.
Northern Alberta and Saskatchewan regions may see snow Friday morning as part of this system, according to the Weather Network.
