A Mexican city has reclaimed its world record for having the world’s largest bowl of guacamole.
Tancitaro, 349 kilometers east of Manzanillo, is home to the annual Avocado Festival in April, which highlights and celebrates the avocado industry of the region.
Over a thousand volunteers, producers, and local growers spent 2.5 hours mixing up thousands of pounds of guacamole in a giant bowl to reclaim a record they lost in 2022 to the city of Periban. That year, volunteers of Periban mixed up nearly 11 thousand pounds of guac to take the world record from Tancitaro. Four years later, Tancitaro set a new record this spring mixing up 14,991 pounds of guacamole (6.8 metric tons) for another spot in the Guinness World Records Book.
“This moment belongs to the thousands of Michoacán families whose livelihoods are rooted on avocado farms,” stated Raul E. Martínez Pulido, President of APEAM in a news release from the Avocado Institute of Mexico.
According for health experts, avocadoes are part of healthy diet and are rich in fibre, essential vitamins, and monosaturated fats. Avocadoes are said to be good for managing body weight, lowering harmful cholesterol, lowering blood pressure, and they contain antioxidants important for healthy eyes.
The Avocado Festival celebrated its 13th year and brings together industry leaders, producers, and visitors to discuss the latest breakthroughs in sustainable avocado production. It also showcases how the avocado industry is an economic engine for the region and how it’s important to the local culture.
