This Friday the Saskatchewan Roughriders will be showing off their new prairie blizzard jerseys heading into their game with the Toronto Argonauts at Mosaic Stadium. This will technically be a road game for the Riders even though they’re playing in Regina because the Argoes are temporarily homeless due to the FIFA World Cup being played in their stadium in Toronto.
The Riders will be showing off their new white uniforms for one game only and fans are encouraged to wear white as well to simulate a blizzard on the prairies.
“It turned out really cool. We did the decal on the helmut. We matched it all the way through. We kind of took all the black out of the uniform, which was kind of a cool thing to do, so, it is, in a lot of ways, the opposite of obsidian,” explained Mark Habicht of the Riders.
The team will only be using the jersey once, which means some lucky fans will be given the jerseys worn by the players at the end of the game.
“The jersey’s we’re selling in the store are a limited edition, so when they’re gone, they’re gone, so this really is kind of a snap shot in time ” noted Habicht.
According to Habicht, the prairie blizzard jersey and the t-shirt have been the most popular items in terms of sales so far.
“Part of what’s going to make the game fun is if fans show up in white and really “white-out” the stands and make a prairie blizzard in the stands and that’s what we’re looking for,” chuckled Habicht.
