Wave a flag. Enjoy community activities. Work in the garden or yard. Travel, with friends or family.
Soak in the sun that we haven’t seen heat the earth. Squeeze what ever you can into days that are slowly getting shorter.
This weekend we were offered a collective two days of nice weather and how did you enjoy this. Our surrounding Saskatchewan communities are ready to welcome old and new friends back for events. The month has endless opportunities for parade candy, midway rides, music, dancing, show and shines with projects you’ve been working on. Phantom smells of popcorn, hotdogs and burgers cooking at town fairs and reunions.
Thank you Odessa for a lovely day of activities. Coming this week another kind of community pops up in the Craven valley with Country Thunder Saskatchewan. Within Regina, the Fringe Festival returns to two venues; the Artesian and the Unitarian Church. The locations within walking distance of each other from 13th Ave and Angus to College and Angus Street. EASY. www.reginafringe.com
Back on track. Let’s fill in where our staff will be surfacing in this busy month. Country Thunder Saskatchewan has been around for years and evolving. We come to the show with information and perhaps some surprises for our listeners. You never know how we might get you into a meet and greet situation. And not just meeting your favourite on – air personalities!! There’s line dancing, a Roughrider Watch Party, Bull Riding, food, drink, merchandise and the ultimate meeting place for music lovers. Don’t forget your bug spray.
We casually switch gears in July from music and optional clothing to Ag In Motion. This agricultural paradise is held July 21 to 23 just north-west of Saskatoon at Discovery Farm Langham, Saskatchewan. Not only will Good Morning Saskatchewan be broadcasting live, but we will visit with a variety of exhibitors as well. Ag In Motion offers our agriculture community a chance to shine and show what kind of innovations have been developed. Tickets are available on line. CKRM will be giving away a trip to Germany. Listen to Sask Ag Today for details.
A family event that offers, food, music, midway and some other surprises is the Queen City Ex held in Regina at the REAL District. As things change with this organization, this will be a great year to take in the Original Sixteen stage in Confederation Park. Starting things off the evening of July 29th is Colin Raye and Billy Dean. On that stage through the EX, all genres of music are explored. Again, advance tickets are available now.
On a smaller scale, Saskatchewan Roughriders play two home games. The first sees the Hamilton Ti-Cats playing the Roughriders on July 12th 5pm. The Sunday evening game gives you enough time to squeal out too catch Lainey Wilson on the Country Thunder Stage, if you aren’t exhausted from cheering loudly. The Riders will also play a Thursday Night game at Mosaic Stadium against the Edmonton Elks 7pm. Between the game, the tailgating and pre-game activities you don’t want to miss this fun football experience.
There’s the Regina Red Sox baseball throughout July in Weyburn, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Swift Current as well as in Regina at Currie Field.
July 16 – 19 – Ness Creek at Big River Saskatchewan
July 11 – Big Flat Folk Festival in Eastend, Saskatchewan
July 24 – 25 – Gateway Festival in Bengough, Saskatchewan
If you like Rodeo – 93rd Moose Mountain Pro Rodeo in Kennedy, Saskatchewan. Parade at 3pm Saturday July 18th. There’s Slack on the Friday and Pancakes and church service on the July 19th date. The Pile O Bones Rodeo in Regina at the Brandt Centre matches nicely for rodeo goers. Those dates are Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18th both performances at 7pm. Saturday stick around for the Rodeo Cabaret.
Car shows are popping up everywhere including Findlater, Saskatchewan’s Volkswagen S & S. Sedley Car Show and Summer Bash happens on July 25th as does the Creekside Gardens Show at Qu’Appelle.
A big thank you to all the communities that keep their Agriculture Societies going and I’m thinking of Ogema, Sask. They celebrate on July 12th with their 109th Ag Society event and on Sunday the Pioneer Day event.
WOW – that’s just a bit of July! Memories are made in summertime.
P.S. My Aunt, Elva McDougall is a STAR she’s set to celebrate her 105th birthday this upcoming weekend. Still telling jokes and stories from growing up with her sisters Olive and Lavina.

As a kid it was a special getaway to travel to Aylesbury, Sask to visit my Aunt Elva and Uncle Jim. This week, we are celebrating her on birthday number 105. A life lived with cattle, horses and adventures with her mother and father and her sisters, Lavina and my mom, Olive. She is an inspiration in so many ways.
