90’s country fans were out in full force Wednesday evening as Billy Dean and Collin Raye performed on the Original 16 Stage at the Queen City Ex in Regina. Billy Dean broke onto the music scene in 1990 when he released his debut album “Young Man” featuring the singles “Only Here for a Little While” and “Somewhere in my Broken Heart.” He’d go on to score eight top five singles on the chart including two number one songs in Canada with “If There Hadn’t Been You” and “Tryin’ to Hide a Fire in the Dark.”

The award winning singer and songwriter calls Florida home now and continues to write and release music.
“I can’t stop writing even though I know people may not be interested in the new music I got, but I really do think it’s the best work, the best writing I’ve done, because I think the older you get the better at storytelling you get,” explained Dean. “You have another layer of life that you can draw from when writing and telling a story.”
He says he has started recording several of the songs on a new album he’sworking on and will be releasing them over time on social media.
“I’ve got a song called Buckshot Jones, which is kind of a fun little character, but it’s really based around a guy that was from my hometown and it tells a really great story,” noted Dean.
In addition to recording new music and touring with Collin Raye, he’s also writing a book about his uncles who died in World War Two. In the book, he talks about his father who was also in the war and includes a number of letters that his brothers wrote during that time.
“I wanted to put these letters together for my family and preserve them for history sake I guess,” stated Dean. “What started off as a preservation project turned out to be sort of a father-son story about my dad and I.”
