For the past 10 years residents of Pacifica, California have been treated to an unusual, yet cute show in the nearby Pacific Ocean.
The annual World Dog Surfing Championships took place over the August long weekend which brings in dogs and their owners from all over the globe to see which canine can ride the waves the best.
Dogs are judged on their confidence, the size of the wave they catch, their balance, and if they do any tricks on the board. All dogs are equipped with special floatation vests to ensure they don’t drown in the water.
There are three categories that dogs compete in; large, medium, and small. This year, a lab named “Rippin’ Rosie” won the large dog category. A French bulldog named “Iza” took home the medium dog category and a mixed breed dog named Bradley “Shortboard” Cooper took home the small dog honours.
It’s fair to say the waters off Pacifica were a bit “ruff” this weekend.
