So Donnie and I were out grocery shopping on the weekend and the cadet’s were in full force raising funds and promoting their organizations. So we were grateful in being able to contribute to their cause…..
Here’s Something to think about if you have a youngster in the family that is looking for adventure and new friends. The youth cadet corps and squadrons for ages 12 to 18 in Regina, Saskatchewan, offer a federally funded, cost-free program that serves as a powerful catalyst for personal growth and community connection. By joining local units like the historic 155 Royal Regina Rifles Army Cadets or the 34 Roland Groome Air Cadets, young residents develop essential life skills, including robust peer leadership, citizenship, and self-discipline. The program encourages a lifelong commitment to physical fitness through dynamic activities like biathlon and marksmanship. Beyond character building, Regina youth gain specialized training in aviation, seamanship, or outdoor survival, alongside tangible academic and career perks like high school co-op credits, volunteer hours, and even paid summer training opportunities. Ultimately, it provides a safe, inclusive environment where local youth build lasting friendships and confidence while transitioning successfully into adulthood
Regina has several active youth cadet corps and squadrons for ages 12 to 18 (plus Navy League cadets for ages 9–12), which meet weekly at local venues like HMCS Queen and the Elphinstone Street armories.

Back in 2018, I was so grateful to get a private tour of the Military Museum here in Regina at 1600 Elphinstone St. near Mosaic Stadium. My tour was conducted by Major Keith Inches and I learned and saw a lot. Mr. Inches served in the Canadian Forces for 37 years, retiring as a Major. Following retirement, he has devoted considerable time and energy to preserving Canada’s military history. Mr. Inches created the Saskatchewan Military Museum decades ago and was the curator for a long time. Mr. Inches has exhibited military artifacts in Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the United States. He has participated in numerous training courses with the Organization of Military Museums in Canada as well as the United States Army Museum Course. Mr. Inches was instrumental in the creation of an annual Remembrance Day for children in Regina, which has been in existence for more than 20 years. Mr. Inches ensured stained glass windows, which depict First and Second World War scenes at a church, were saved and are now displayed at the armoury, following the demolition of the church. Mr. Inches also assisted with fundraising efforts to restore a famous D-Day painting by artist Orville Fisher.
A great man with distinguished credentials who has done a lot for Saskatchewan military history.
Here’s a little tour of my tour…..you have to go visit some day.
Major Keith Inches informed me that a big problem that many families have is what do they do with unwanted military medals or photo’s? If you have the information on the serviceperson then by all means drop them off at the Military Museum so they can catalogue them and display them.
