The RCMP is investigating reports of threats involving Swan Valley Regional Secondary School and Tuesday’s school day.
The Swan Valley School Division says reports began circulating through text messages and social media around four o’clock Monday afternoon, prompting students, families and community members to contact school officials.
The division is thanking those who came forward, saying their actions demonstrate the importance of reporting any threats or concerning behaviour to a trusted adult or school administrator.
The RCMP has taken steps to significantly reduce potential risks to students and staff. Officers will also be present at the school Tuesday as an additional precaution.
The division stresses that police presence should not be interpreted as confirmation of an imminent threat to the school community.
Officials say no social media posts or messages have been confirmed as coming directly from a potential threat-maker, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information that could assist investigators is asked to contact the RCMP at 204-734-4686 or dispatch at 204-734-3454, or reach out to the school division.
