This week Air Canada announced it is adding a new fee for those who prefer booking over the phone rather than online.
The airline says they will now charge a non-refundable $30 fee per passenger for those who book a flight over the telephone. These booking fees will not be applicable to those who require special help with an existing reservation, have accessibility issues, or for those dealing with delayed or canceled flights.
It will apply to those who are booking a new flight and are able to use the booking platforms on Air Canada’s website and phone app. According to the company, using their digital booking options helps reduce wait times at their call centre allowing their agents to help others who need specialized service.
The fee is in effect now. WestJet and Porter Airlines also have similar fees for those reserving new flights over the telephone.
