Sask Agriculture minister promotes intensive livestock development at SARM meeting

Agriculture minister David Marit promoted the development of intensive livestock operations at the SARM mid-term convention in Regina Wednesday.

He told over a thousand rural delegates that agriculture is a key pillar of the economy and the livestock sector has surpassed 2 billion dollars in farm cash receipts.

He adds intensive livestock operations like hog barns and cattle feedlots play an important economic role in the province.

He said they contribute to the agriculture industry, but also support local communities.

Marit added the livestock operations make use of feed grain, which will be in abundant supply this fall because of poor harvest weather.

Marit encouraged delegates to attend a session on developing intensive livestock operations at the mid-term convention in Regina.

The SARM mid-term meeting wraps up Thursday.
