Police operation on Angus Street results in charges for Regina man

A 19-year-old man is facing charges after an incident on Tuesday resulted in a police operation on the 1400 block of Angus Street.

A police patrol unit was sent at approximately 4:00 p.m. to assist Regina Fire and Protective Services and EMS at an apartment residence on the 1400 block of Angus Street. Initial information showed a fire alarm was going off in one of the units where smoke was emerging from a doorway.

What emergency responders thought was a possible fire turned out to be a pot of food that was forgotten about and burning on a stove. The resident of the apartment was unharmed.

After responders entered the apartment, they alerted police to the presence of suspicious looking materials. Officers arrested the man and obtained a search warrant for the premises.

The process of securing the premises and executing the search warrant meant there was an extended police presence on the 1400 block of Angus Street well into the evening.

19 year-old Austin Doerksen-Bye of Regina has been charged with explosives making or possessing of substance, possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order and failure to comply with disposition.

He made his first court appearance on Wednesday afternoon.
