This Saturday will be the last day residents can access recreation facilities operated by the City of Regina.
Mayor Sandra Masters announced late Tuesday afternoon that city-owned recreation facilities will close to the public on Mar. 28 at 12:01 a.m. for the foreseeable future. The city’s decision came after the provincial government’s amendment to the public health order for Regina and area on Tuesday.
“The city owns aquatic centres, the Fieldhouse, rinks. Those are what will be shuttering on Saturday night,” explained Masters.
She strongly recommends people work from home if possible. She’s also asking people to follow the prov recommendations of adhering to households and avoid unnecessary travel.
Masters says they are closing all rec facilities operated by the city.

The move follows the provincial government’s decision to close certain indoor event venues on the same date. Masters called it an added measure in an effort to further reduce transmission within the city during the current variant outbreak.
“These are really brutal conversations. These are really brutal decisions to make. But given the numbers, it needs to happen and it needs to happen now,” she told reporters at city hall.
Masters clarified this decision will not affect the Western Hockey League bubble at Evraz Place. She explained that the WHL will be allowed to continue since they are housed separately and the facilities there are well-contained to limit COVID-19 spread.
“I am asking everyone to adhere to your household. If you go outside, please stick to your household members, wear a mask, practice social distancing, wash your hands and please stay safe.”
