APAS calls on Ottawa to ensure farmers have right to repair their own equipment

Saskatchewan’s general farm group appeared in Ottawa this week to highlight the right of farmers to repair their own machinery.

President Ian Boxall spoke to the Commons Committee on Industry and Technology, pointing to the need for farmers to have access to the computer programs used in their equipment.

Boxall says a key principle of the federal bill under study is to enable farmers access to the software and computer programs used in their equipment.

Boxall says farmers lose money if seeding and harvest is delayed in repairing essential farm equipment.

The bill has passed second reading.
