Two arrested after major drug bust north of Biggar where RCMP officer was shot

Two men from Glenside are facing a slew of drugs and weapons charges after RCMP conducted a search warrant at a rural home 27 kilometres north of Biggar last week, that also resulted in an RCMP officer being shot and suffering non life-threatening injuries.

Officers conducted the warrant on May 15th and seized 1,000 grams of methamphetamine, 444 grams of fentanyl, 3,045 mL of GHB, 500 Xanax pills and 400 tabs of LSD.

Police also seized over $16,000 in Canadian currency, two money counters, scales and drug packaging and eight cell phones, computers and tablets.

A semi-automatic rifle, shotgun, a sawed off double barrel shotgun, a spent light anti-tank weapon, a revolver and body amour was also recovered.

On the property police searched the residence, two outbuildings, and two vehicles.

The two men facing charges are 39-year-old Kurt Elliot Miller and 49-year-old Mitch Hutchinson, both from Glenside.

Miller who was arrested by Regina Police after a traffic stop on May 14th has been charged with;

• CDSA S. 5(2) for trafficking cocaine
• CDSA S. 5(2) for trafficking methamphetamine
• Criminal Code S. 355(B) Possession of Proceeds of Crime under $5,000
• Criminal Code S. 88 Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to the Public
• Criminal Code S. 733.1(1) Breach of Probation

After police conducted the warrant Miller was also charged with the following;

• CDSA S. 5(2) Possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, alazopram (Xanax), gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) for the purpose of trafficking
• Criminal Code S.355 Possessing Proceeds of Crime over $5,000.00
• 16 Criminal Code charges related to firearms

Forty-nine-year-old Mitch Hutchinson who was arrested by RCMP during the execution of the warrant on May 14th is facing the following charges;

• CDSA S. 5(2) – Possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, alazopram (Xanax), gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) for the purpose of trafficking
• CDSA S. 5(2) for trafficking marihuana
• Criminal Code S.355 for Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000.00
• 18 Criminal Code charges related to firearms

A woman that was initially taken into custody when the warrant was conducted has been released.

Both of the accused will make their first court appearances in Saskatoon on Wednesday, May 20th.

“This investigation has removed significant quantities of dangerous drugs from our communities,” said Sgt. Jason Kerr, Saskatchewan RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime in a news release. “The Saskatchewan RCMP is committed to targeting and disrupting the sale of illicit drugs in our province. The types of drugs seized during this investigation have had dangerous, and at times, deadly impacts on the residents of Saskatchewan.”

“The sale and distribution of these dangerous substances results in an increase in criminal activity in our communities and overdoses, which can be fatal. Thousands of people in our province could have been affected had these hazardous substances not been removed from our streets,” Kerr also said.
